“Introduction to new uses of photo in media”

Peter Littger, the Der Spiegel columnist and digital media consultant, pointed to the challenges and opportunities for photography in the mobile media sector. According to Littger, text isn’t a consumer product — but photography is, because it brings liveliness and magic to text. He predicts that writers and photographers will find new ways of collaborating, particularly for mobile, whose constraints are unique but whose opportunities are enormous (mobile technology is now the most intimate technology consumers have; it is literally with us all the time).

One good collaborative example comes from Dutch publication NRC Handelsblad, whose NRC Reader application is now available in the App Store.

Littger is a Berlin-based journalist and strategy consultant for premium and paid content. He works with traditional international publishers as well as with platform-based social publishing start-ups. His objective is to create greater value and higher yields through unique content propositions. Together with his clients and their stakeholders, he improves existing editorial formulas and develops new models to better suit audiences and commercial needs. His advice in a nutshell: "Being different and compellingly entertaining or useful is key." Previously, Littger worked in senior positions with German-language publishers like G+J, Ringier and Holtzbrinck/“Die Zeit”.
